What you must back up

A proper backup covers more than just “website files.” Business websites usually rely on stored data.

  • Database (content, users, submissions)
  • Uploads/media folder
  • Critical config (stored securely)

How often should you back up?

Match backup frequency to how often the site changes.

  • Daily: ecommerce or active content sites
  • Weekly: brochure sites with occasional edits
  • Before/after major updates and redesigns

Test restoring (the most ignored step)

A backup you can’t restore is useless. Periodically test restore on a staging environment.
