Project overview
Mercora is a commerce operating system for African merchants. It powers five major product surfaces: marketing website, authentication and onboarding, merchant workspace, public storefront buyer experience, and platform admin workspace. The frontend is built with Next.js, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS, talking to a Django backend. It handles storefronts, order management, payment orchestration, receipts, and settlement visibility.
Challenge
Creating a comprehensive commerce operating system that serves multiple distinct user roles (merchants, buyers, platform admins) while maintaining strict security, financial accuracy, and a premium, trustworthy UI across all surfaces.
Solution
Built a modular frontend architecture with route groups for marketing, auth, merchant, storefront, and platform admin. Implemented a same-origin API proxy for secure cookie-based auth, tenant-aware storefront routing, and a design-token system for dynamic merchant theming.
Outcome
A production-grade commerce SaaS frontend that provides African merchants with a complete operational toolkit for selling, managing orders, and tracking settlements.
